4.836

述曰：若即見種，五根應識蘊攝；若相分種，五根應外處攝。五根非識蘊攝，即五十七二十二根中、及五十四云：色蘊攝十界、處全故等。相分種者應外處攝，如五十五等解心、心所所依中，五根內處攝故。此即設許識、色異種而為此難，故不同前一種子難。又五十六界四句中云：如眼非界等，如是一切內界亦爾等。

[The Commentary states:] If they were the seeds of the darśana, the five faculties should be subsumed under the consciousness skandha; if they were the seeds of the nimittabhāga, the five faculties should be subsumed under the external bases. The five faculties are not subsumed under the consciousness skandha, as stated in Fascicle Fifty-Seven on the twenty-two faculties, and Fascicle Fifty-Four stating that the rūpa skandha completely subsumes ten dhātus and bases, and so forth. If they were seeds of the nimittabhāga, they should be subsumed under the external bases; but as explained in Fascicle Fifty-Five and elsewhere regarding the bases of citta and caitasikas, the five faculties are subsumed under the internal bases. This objection is raised even conceding distinct seeds for consciousness and form; therefore, it is not the same as the previous objection regarding a single seed. Furthermore, in the four propositions of the dhātus in Fascicle Fifty-Six, it states: Just as the eye is not [another] dhātu, etc., so it is with all internal dhātus, and so forth.
