The Commentary states: Fascicle 4 of the Abhidharma-samuccaya-vyākhyā states: four dhātus, two complete āyatanas, and a portion of the rest are bound to the desire realm. The four dhātus are odor, taste, nose-consciousness, and tongue-consciousness. Among those bound to the form realm, the four previous dhātus are excluded, and a portion of the remainder is bound to the form realm. Fascicle 56 states: four are bound solely to the desire realm; eleven are bound solely to the two realms of desire and form. Thus we know that the nose and tongue faculties exist in the form realm as well. If the seeds of consciousness were identical to the faculties, the faculties should be bound solely to the desire realm. Or else the two consciousnesses should universally apply to bondage in the form realm, because the seeds of consciousness would be identical to the faculties, and those faculties exist there. Clearly, actual consciousnesses exist [there], but both concessions in reverse contradict the teachings.
