4.861

述曰：如《對法》第一等說：眼界者謂曾、現見及此種子積集異熟等。若五色根即是種子，何容更言及此種子，乃至識界亦言現種？若謂五根唯種子者，則違如是一切聖教，諸識亦應唯種子妨。此等皆有無量教文，不能煩引，皆為比量，不能具作之。一一皆應出其理教，此中引教粗略而已。

The Commentary states: As stated in Fascicle 1 and elsewhere of the Abhidharma-samuccaya-vyākhyā: the eye-dhātu refers to past and present seeing, and the accumulation and maturation of its seeds, and so forth. If the five physical faculties were identical to seeds, how could it further say 'and the seeds of this', or even speak of actualities and seeds for the consciousness-dhātu? If one claims that the five faculties are solely seeds, this would contradict all such noble teachings, and one would face the obstacle that all consciousnesses should also be solely seeds. There are countless scriptural passages of this kind, which cannot all be cited without tediousness, and all can form syllogisms that cannot be completely constructed here. In each case, one should provide its reasoning and scripture; here the citation of scripture is merely rough and brief.
