述曰：前師若言此說種依非現依者，應說有藏識故得有第六，何故展轉相望而有？前師若言以第六種生現識時，必隨遂第七種子方生故以為依，得展轉說者。不爾五根、五識為例應然，亦有別根故。此如《對法》第二卷說眼識依眼中，屬眼之識處說。

The Commentary states: If the earlier master says this speaks of the seed support and not the actual support, it should say that because of the storehouse consciousness one can have the sixth; why would they exist conditionally dependent upon each other? If the earlier master says that when the seed of the sixth generates the actual consciousness, it necessarily follows the seed of the seventh before it can arise, and therefore serves as a support, allowing it to be stated as conditionally dependent—it is not so. Taking the five faculties and the five consciousnesses as an analogy, it should be likewise, for there are also separate faculties. This is as stated in Fascicle 2 of the Abhidharma-samuccaya-vyākhyā where eye-consciousness relies on the eye, in the section on the consciousness belonging to the eye.
