述曰：《楞伽經》文，勘彼文同。遍依根者，異五識故。隨所有根皆能依故，餘文可解。

[The Commentary states:] This is a passage from the Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra; comparing it with that text, it is identical. "Pervasively relying on the sense-faculties" distinguishes it from the five consciousnesses. Because it is capable of relying on whatever sense-faculties there are, the remaining text can be understood.
