述曰：以染淨依故，所以如前，一也。同轉識攝，二也。近，三也。相順者，多引意識起染污執等由第七識，故言相順俱計度故，非如第八，四也，所以第八有處不說。下第三段也。

The Commentary states: Because it is the basis of defilement and purification, the reason is as stated before—this is the first [reason]. Both are subsumed under the transformed consciousnesses (pravṛtti-vijñāna)—this is the second. It is proximate—this is the third. 'Harmonious' means that the mental consciousness is largely induced to give rise to defiled grasping and the like by the seventh consciousness, hence it is said to be harmonious because both engage in calculation (parikalpa), unlike the eighth—this is the fourth. For these reasons, the eighth is not mentioned in some places. Below is the third section.
