述曰：《楞伽經》第九卷總品中頌。舊偈云：依止阿梨耶，能轉生意識。依止依心意，能生於轉識。稍與此別，准此前依足為好證，今文可解。

The Commentary states: This is a verse from the General Chapter in the ninth fascicle of the Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra. The older verse translation reads: 'Relying on the ālaya, the mental consciousness is able to turn and arise. Relying on the basis, citta and manas, it is able to produce the transformed consciousnesses.' It differs slightly from this, but in light of the basis explained previously, it serves well as proof; the present text is easily understood.
