4.984

述曰：闕一義，故但可為依，而非所依，亦不違論。第三師云：諸識種子應有所依，七、八現行識具三義，如前理說。

The Commentary states: Because it lacks one requirement, it can only be a support (āśrita) but not that upon which it relies (āśraya), and this does not contradict the treatises. The third master said: The seeds of the various consciousnesses should have a basis; the active consciousnesses of the seventh and eighth possess the three requirements, as reasoned previously.
