[The Commentary states:] If it is said that they have matter born of meditative concentration (samādhi-saṃbhūta-rūpa), the objection is raised: noble ones have this matter, and noble ones would have what belongs to a self; ordinary beings do not transform matter, so they would lack what belongs to a self. Furthermore, if they transform into matter, those born there would have what belongs to a self; if they do not transform into matter, those born there would lack what belongs to a self. Moreover, having extreme revulsion toward matter, they are born there and do not transform matter; thus we know that in the formless realm there would definitely be no what belongs to a self.
