The Commentary states: When afflictions arise, the mind inevitably rushes toward objects and dissipates, unlike in virtuous states. Why is this? It is because it generates distraction toward objects that it then wanders and dissipates. When various treatises explain distraction, they all say 'unpeaceful'. 'Unpeaceful' has the meaning of wandering and dissipation, which agrees with this principle. Therefore, these three factors pervade all defiled minds; there is no mind that becomes defiled without these three.
