The Commentary states: One would have to accept that the feeling of joy extends to being bound to all three realms and nine bhūmis. This refutes the previous master, because the feeling of this consciousness functions in a uniform category, and therefore this should extend throughout. "Contradicts the holy words" refers to contradicting the twelfth fascicle of the Yogācārabhūmi, which states: grief is eliminated in the first dhyāna; suffering is eliminated in the second dhyāna; joy is eliminated in the third dhyāna; pleasure is eliminated in the fourth dhyāna; in the signless, the equanimity faculty is eliminated, and so forth in detail. If joy and pleasure were conceded to extend up to the bhavāgra, then grief and suffering should also be conceded to exist throughout the three realms.
