述曰：若由《大論》六十三，說阿羅漢位無有意故，便無第七；則無學身應無第八，以聖說故。何愛第八而便許有，憎第七而言無？言無染意以俱許故。

The Commentary states: If, because Fascicle 63 of the Great Treatise (Yogācārabhūmi) says that in the state of an arhat there is no manas, there would consequently be no seventh consciousness; then in the person of an aśaikṣa there should also be no eighth consciousness, because it is spoken of by the Sage. Why love the eighth and thereby accept its existence, yet despise the seventh and say it does not exist? As for saying there is no defiled manas, both [traditions] accept this.
