述曰：文中有三：初問；次答；後釋頌。下會唯立六識是也，小乘執此即是六識入過去者，故為此問。答中有二：初、總以教理為量；二、別以教理為量。

The Commentary states: In the text there are three parts: first, the question; next, the answer; and finally, the explanation of the verse. Below, it reconciles the position that posits only six consciousnesses; the Hīnayāna adheres to the view that this [manas] is just the six consciousnesses passed into the past, hence this question is asked. In the answer there are two parts: first, a general appeal to scriptural authority and reasoning as pramāṇa; second, a specific appeal to scriptural authority and reasoning as pramāṇa.
