述曰：下有三說，此即初師。此中無明不與根本共，非不與隨共，然此四惑非是根本，是隨惑攝，故無此失。何隨惑攝耶？此有二義：一云，非二十隨，二十外攝。《雜事》說，隨有多種故，即諸煩惱分位差別，隨其所應根本分位。二云，即隨惑，義說不正知為我見，憍為我慢，掉為我愛，無明一種是根本故。

The Commentary states: Below there are three explanations, and this is the first master's. Here, ignorance is not shared with the root [afflictions], but it is not that it is not shared with the secondary [afflictions]; however, these four afflictions are not root [afflictions], but are subsumed under the secondary afflictions, so there is no such fault. Under which secondary afflictions are they subsumed? Regarding this there are two meanings: One says that they are not the twenty secondary afflictions, but are subsumed outside the twenty. The Miscellaneous Matters states that there are many kinds of secondary [afflictions]; that is, they are differentiations among the states of the various afflictions according with their corresponding root states. The second says that they are precisely the [twenty] secondary afflictions: by metaphoric explanation, incorrect knowing is self-view, arrogance is self-conceit, and restlessness is self-love, while ignorance alone is a root [affliction].
