5.60

述曰：第八初起圓鏡智時，諸異生等初受生等，以前六、七為開導依，皆不違理。由彼如前所說理故，總結成義。言「阿陀那」者，通無漏故。此中四緣，如下廣解。

The Commentary states: When the eighth [consciousness] first gives rise to the mirror-like wisdom, or when ordinary beings (pṛthagjana) first take birth and so on, taking the preceding sixth or seventh [consciousness] as the opening-and-guiding basis does not contradict reason in any of these cases. Because of the reasoning stated previously, it concludes by establishing the thesis. The mention of 'ādānavijñāna' is because it extends to the undefiled (anāsrava). The four conditions (pratyaya) here will be explained in detail below.
