述曰：釋心、意、識三種名中，所名識別名也。能了別境名為識故，謂了別行麁故，非心、意名識。

[The Commentary states:] This explains, among the three designations of citta, manas, and vijñāna, the distinct name of that which is designated vijñāna. Because that which can discern objects is called consciousness, meaning that the activity of discerning is coarse, neither citta nor manas is named consciousness.
