5.779

述曰：此即問起。然前第八識，辨心、心所已，方說言是無覆無記；今者解識，即辨其性。前顯心、心所法其性必同，所以解心所已，方始解性；今者識後明性，顯此聚亦爾。但是影顯二文，令相互照。又彼諸法不定通三性，此定通故，使後學之惠起異論端故。下答之中：初舉頌；下別釋。

The Commentary states: This is initiating [the section] with a question. Now, with respect to the eighth consciousness previously, only after distinguishing the citta and caitasikas did it state that it is non-obscured indeterminate; here, in explaining the consciousnesses, it immediately determines their nature. Previously, to show that citta and caitasika dharmas must necessarily be of the same nature, it only began to explain their nature after explaining the caitasikas; here, by clarifying their nature after [introducing] the consciousnesses, it shows that this group is also like that. This is merely a complementary presentation between the two passages, causing them to reflect each other. Furthermore, those [previous] dharmas did not definitively pervade the three natures, whereas these definitively pervade them, which would cause the intellects of subsequent scholars to give rise to conflicting debates. In the answer below: first, the verse is cited; below, it is individually explained.
