述曰：故彼第八定是捨根，以七、八識彼定有故。若彼救言：意識定恒有彼憂，受無捨受故。據起意已後，必相續。彼文無妨者，難云：
The Commentary states: Therefore, that eighth is definitely the equanimity faculty, because the seventh and eighth consciousnesses definitely exist there. If the opponent saves [their thesis] by arguing, 'The mental consciousness is definitely and constantly accompanied by sorrow, for [that] feeling lacks the equanimity feeling, and according to the fact that once the mind arises it must be continuous, that text presents no obstacle,' then one refutes this by saying:
