The Commentary states: Because joy in the access stages of the first and second dhyānas benefits both body and mind, although subsumed under the joy faculty, it is nevertheless also called pleasure. Where is this stated? The second chapter of the Prakaraṇāryavācā fully explains this meaning. That is, that treatise says: As the sūtra states, 'so-called moistening by the joy and pleasure born of detachment,' and so forth in detail, this refers to the access stages of the first and second dhyānas, and so on. Chapter fifty-seven and chapter seven of the Abhidharma[-samuccaya] are both identical to that. Hence it also says 'and so forth.' Is it that merely because there is the word 'pleasure,' the access stages therefore have pleasure feeling? Even if it did, what harm would there be?
