The Commentary states: This refers to three arising toward the four objects. First, taking the agreeable as the head, combining with the remaining gives six. The treatise merely adduces one: that is, toward the agreeable, the determined, and the previously practiced, the three—desire, resolve, and mindfulness—arise together. Furthermore, toward the agreeable, the determined, and the contemplated, the three—desire, resolve, and concentration—arise together. Furthermore, toward the agreeable, the determined, and the contemplated, the three—desire, resolve, and wisdom—arise together. Furthermore, toward the agreeable, the previously practiced, and the contemplated, the three—desire, mindfulness, and concentration—arise together. Furthermore, toward the agreeable, the previously practiced, and the contemplated, desire, mindfulness, and wisdom arise. Furthermore, toward the agreeable and the contemplated, desire, concentration, and wisdom arise. Likewise, taking the determined as the head gives three: that is, toward the determined, the previously practiced, and the contemplated, the three—resolve, mindfulness, and concentration—arise. Furthermore, toward the determined, the previously practiced, and the contemplated, the three—resolve, mindfulness, and wisdom—arise. Furthermore, toward the determined and the contemplated, the three—resolve, concentration, and wisdom—arise. Likewise, toward the previously practiced and the contemplated, the three—mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom—arise. Combining across the four objects, there are ten sets of three for the arising of desire and so forth. Here, it merely adduces the first one and the last one.
