The Commentary states: Next is the second section, presenting the substance of the various wholesome factors, divided into eight parts, combining shame and remorse into one, and the three wholesome roots into one. In specifically explaining faith, first the correct doctrine is presented, and below the external attachments are refuted. In presenting the correct doctrine, first it is brief, and then extensive. In the brief presentation are substance and activity; this is its nature. Although texts like the Prakaraṇāryavācā, the Abhidharma-samuccaya, and the Pañcaskandhaka have similar phrasing, only this treatise distinguishes whether the real and so forth are differentiated. The three—real, virtue, and ability—are the grounds of faith, which are the objects of the seventh [category of faith]; deep conviction, delight, and desire are the causes and fruits of faith; 'its nature is purification of the mind' directly reveals its own substance.
