The Commentary states: This means that regarding sāsrava and anāsrava wholesome phenomena, one has faith that oneself and others can attain them now and accomplish them later; unconditioned phenomena are attained, and conditioned phenomena are accomplished; mundane wholesome phenomena are attained, and supramundane ones are accomplished. Regarding "because of giving rise to aspiration": aspiration is desire (chanda). The three—endurance, joy, and aspiration—correspond in sequential order to the above. The Abhidharmasamuccaya merely states: "Thinking: 'I have the power, and am capable of attaining and capable of accomplishing.'" That was based provisionally on one's own accomplishment; here it also extends to others, universally employing words like "capable of attaining." The explanation of the basis of faith above has now concluded; to follow the natural flow of the text, the purification of the mind has not yet been explained. Next, its functional activity is explained.
