述曰：此外問也。前言：忍者即謂勝解，忍可境故；即是此信同時之因。下言：樂、欲並是欲數，樂希境故；即是同時信所生果。此中何者是信自相？確實論其自相是何？確者，實也。或忍、樂、欲，異時因果，理無遮也。

The Commentary states: This is the external question. It was previously stated: endurance means resolution, because it endorses the objective domain; thus it is the simultaneous cause of this faith. Below it states: joy and aspiration are both the mental factor of desire, because they take joy in and aspire toward the objective domain; thus they are the simultaneous effects produced by faith. Among these, which is the intrinsic characteristic of faith? When discussing it definitively, what is its intrinsic characteristic? "Definitively" means truly. Alternatively, endurance, joy, and aspiration are causes and effects at different times; in principle, this is not precluded.
