The Commentary states: Regarding "relying on the power of the world, disdainfully rejecting violence and evil": the distinction is that if others censure and disparage [one], and one feels ashamed of various evil phenomena and does not commit them, all of this is called "relying on the world." Evil phenomena are called "others"; therefore, the Abhidharmasamuccaya merely states that feeling shame regarding others is its substance, while the Prakaraṇāryavācā states that it is regarding the predominance of the world, which is the condition. Those who possess evil are called "violent," and the substance of defiled phenomena is called "evil"; toward these two phenomena, one disdains those who possess evil and does not become intimate with them, and one rejects evil deeds and does not commit them. Or it refers generally to disdainful rejection, or generally to violence and evil; these are all distinct characteristics of remorse. The remaining functional activities are as explained before.
