The Commentary states: The text below has four parts: first, stating the thesis; second, citing scriptural evidence; third, reconciling contradictions; fourth, establishing the reasoning. This is the first. This refutes by means of an inference: "Non-delusion is not wisdom, but has a distinct intrinsic nature"; "it directly counters ignorance" among the unwholesome; "because it is subsumed under the wholesome roots; like non-greed and the other." The syllogism is: Non-delusion definitely has a distinct entity (thesis); because what it directly counters is an unwholesome root (reason); like non-greed and non-anger (example). Furthermore: This really has an intrinsic nature apart from wisdom (thesis); because it is subsumed under the three wholesome roots, along with non-greed and so forth (reason); like non-greed and non-anger (example). It does not simply say "because it is wholesome," nor "because it is subsumed under the eleven wholesome [factors]," because equanimity (upekṣā) and the others would constitute a fallacy.
