述曰：今此第一，即初發心，餘四修行。修行中有二：自分；勝進。自分行中有上、中、下三品別故，總為五也。且如初地行捨有初發心，有下品、中品、上品行檀，檀成滿已方入二地。持戒勝進趣後名勝進行，如是乃至十地之中位位皆爾，如《十地論》廣解。

The Commentary states: Here, this first one is the initial resolve of the mind, and the remaining four are practice. Within practice there are two: one's own domain, and superior advancement. Because within one's own domain of practice there is the distinction among the three grades of high, intermediate, and low, there are five in total. For example, in the first ground, practicing giving has the initial resolve, and has the lower, intermediate, and higher grades of practicing dāna; only when dāna is fully perfected does one enter the second ground. The superior advancement of observing morality, which inclines toward what follows, is called superior-advancement practice. In this way, up to the ten grounds, every single stage is likewise, as explained in detail in the Daśabhūmika-śāstra.
