6.330

述曰：下有略廣，此略也。不放逸以精進及三根，於所斷惡法防令不起，所修善法修令增長。體是四法，約別功能假說不逸，所防中通一切有漏法。

The Commentary states: Below there is a summary and an elaboration; this is the summary. Heedfulness, through diligence and the three roots, guards against evil dharmas to be abandoned so that they do not arise, and cultivates wholesome dharmas to be cultivated so that they increase. Its substance is four dharmas; it is designated nominally as heedfulness based on their specific function. Among what is guarded against, it extends to all contaminated dharmas.
