述曰：論主難曰：四法能防、修，四體無力故待不逸。不逸能防、修，亦應無力，復有所待，如彼四法如是展轉，有無窮失。若不放逸別有自性，不待餘法即能防、修，彼四亦然，故非離彼別有不逸。

The Commentary states: The treatise master objects: 'If the four dharmas are able to guard and cultivate, but because the four lack power in themselves they depend on heedfulness, then heedfulness, being able to guard and cultivate, should also lack power and again depend on something else. Just like those four dharmas, this would proceed successively and incur the fault of infinite regress. If heedfulness has a distinct intrinsic nature and is able to guard and cultivate without depending on other dharmas, those four are also likewise; therefore, there is no separately existing heedfulness apart from them.'
