6.350

述曰：若令心等不散名防、修，即應是定。若令心、心所法同取一境，不乖返緣名防、修，與觸何別？若所作善惡憶念不忘名防、修，即應是念。

The Commentary states: If causing the mind and the like not to be scattered is called guarding and cultivating, then it would simply be concentration. If causing the mind and mental factors to jointly apprehend a single object without discordant or contrary apprehension is called guarding and cultivating, how would it differ from contact? If not forgetting wholesome and unwholesome deeds that were performed is called guarding and cultivating, then it would simply be mindfulness.
