The Commentary states: The mental factor of non-harming (ahiṃsā) is present in all wholesome minds, because it does not injure oneself or others and is contrary to harming and injury, just like the mind of great compassion. Although great compassion is said to have non-harming as its essence, how could the other wholesome states lack it? Reason dictates that they must be conjoined. Because the four factors—vigor (vīrya) and the rest—have the same significance, they are not mentioned. If so, how can the text stating that eleven arise in six states be reconciled?
