述曰：彼小乘中通見、修斷，聖有而不行，無修道我慢故。今大乘修道既得有我慢，是故聖者現行。《顯揚》及八十八等云：七慢或俱生或分別。故知九慢修起無失。五十八稍廣作差別說。

The Commentary states: In the Hīnayāna, they pervade abandonment by seeing and by cultivation; the noble ones possess them but do not manifest them, because there is no conceit of 'I' on the path of cultivation. Now, since in the Mahāyāna the path of cultivation can have the conceit of 'I', noble ones manifest them. The Prakaraṇa and fascicle eighty-eight state: The seven conceits are either innate or conceptual. Therefore, we know that the nine conceits arising in cultivation is without fault. Fascicle fifty-eight makes distinctions somewhat more broadly.
