The Commentary states: In this, regarding views—that is, all other evil views—and the five aggregates upon which they depend, grasping them as supreme and as pure dharmas capable of attaining nirvāṇa is the grasping of views. Because of mutually grasping various views and so forth as superior through this, all disputes among externalists arise from it. If one grasps other dharmas apart from views and their retinues as superior and leading to nirvāṇa, or merely grasps them as superior, that is not the grasping of views; the initial text of fascicle 58 of the Great Treatise (Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra) and its combination with confusion regarding the four truths state the same as this. As in the Hīnayāna Kośa and others, one should speak of "grasping views and so on," because merely grasping what is not superior as superior is in all cases the grasping of views. Here it is not so; there is no separate conception before and after, but only regarding a single aggregation of view and retinue is it this [grasping of views], because among the objects grasped, the view is supreme. Saying "and so on" is also acceptable, as will be known below.
