The Commentary states: Second, taking anger as primary. Anger, conceit, and doubt can sometimes arise together; why could they not? If an internal object is that which conceit relies on, it is not what anger hates; because their objects are different, the Samuccaya, fascicle 6, and [Yogācāra,] fascicle 58, say that anger does not associate with conceit. But if on an external object, what is held in contempt by conceit is what is hated by anger, their objects can be the same; hence fascicle 55 states that anger and conceit can associate. Moreover, one certainly does not give rise to anger toward oneself, but may subsequently feel anger toward another and also hold them in contempt.
