述曰：第二，明慢，有二說，此初也。此二種慢，五趣為論，容四受俱，唯除苦受。由苦趣中亦恃己身有苦劣蘊，起慢之時與憂相應，此依實義慢與憂俱。前約相麁，說慢不與身、邪見一分俱，不恃苦蘊故。此唯意識，故通分別，不同貪等，苦得定說。

The Commentary states: Second, explaining pride; there are two explanations, and this is the first. Regarding these two kinds of pride discussed across the five destinies, they can coexist with four feelings, excluding only the feeling of suffering. Because in the painful destinies one also relies on one's own body having painful and inferior aggregates, when pride arises, it is associated with sorrow; this is based on the true meaning that pride coexists with sorrow. Earlier, based on coarse marks, it was said that pride does not coexist with a portion of the view of self-existence and false views, because one does not rely on painful aggregates. This belongs only to the mental consciousness and thus pervades discrimination, unlike greed and so forth where suffering is definitively stated.
