[The Commentary states:] Here, when forgetfulness has mindfulness as its essential nature, it does not co-occur with the mindfulness of the specific-object [factors]; but since it also comprises a portion of delusion, it can therefore be associated with it. Discernment should be understood by analogy with this, as it also has a portion of delusion. These two are stated together, hence it is said: "defiled mindfulness and discernment," and so forth. Question: Anger takes the present as its object, whereas mindfulness takes what has been previously practiced as its object; how can these two be said to be capable of co-arising?
