The Commentary states: Taking only what arises from the uncontaminated as an intentional object, or names that arise therefrom, should be understood by analogy with what was said above regarding the afflictions. Alternatively, according to the meanings elucidated above, jealousy and so forth are said to take names that arise from the uncontaminated as their intentional objects, whereas wrath and so forth are said to take affairs that arise from the contaminated as their intentional objects. The intentional object of these matters and names should be checked and reconciled with the notes on Fascicles 58 and 59. The words 'the contaminated and so forth' encompass the gates of possessing vipāka and so forth, the gate of the nine grades that nourish rebirth and generate karma, and so forth, all of which should be reflected upon in accordance with reason.
