The Commentary states: The ninth is the section on the three natures (trisvabhāva). Therein, the general is first, followed by the specific. All four extend to the three natures, as in the fifty-fifth and fifty-eighth fascicles [of the Yogācāra] and identically in the Abhidharma. Here, why does remorse extend to the indeterminate? Because one also regrets indeterminate deeds. Although one does not definitely give rise to an indeterminate regret over an indeterminate deed, the arising of indeterminate regret must be based on an indeterminate deed. Question: Why does the first fascicle of the Prakaraṇāryavācā say that remorse is defiled or undefiled, wholesome or unwholesome, without mentioning the indeterminate? Because it conforms to the Hīnayāna, because it arises mostly [as such], and because it speaks only of that which accompanies sorrow.
