述曰：若但心分位如覺天、經部等者，如何聖教說與心相應？十卷《楞伽頌》第九、十卷皆有「相應」之言等故，若心所即心，不可言相應，相應者必與他性，非自性故。如《對法》第五〈相應品〉等說：自性二體不俱故，及五十六說：他性相應非自性等。

The Commentary states: If they are merely states of the mind, as held by Buddhadeva, the Sautrāntikas, and others, how is it that the sacred teachings speak of their association with the mind? In the ninth and tenth fascicles of the ten-fascicle Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra, verses both contain the word 'associated' and so on. If mental factors are identical with the mind, one cannot speak of association, because what is associated must be of a different nature, not of its own nature. As the fifth fascicle of the Abhidharma-samuccaya-vyākhyā in the 'Chapter on Association' and other texts say, two substances of the same nature cannot exist together; and the fifty-sixth fascicle says that association is with another nature, not with one's own nature, and so forth.
