述曰：七轉識中，前六轉識，除第七也，以第七識緣恒無礙。又於彼文已明依彼轉緣彼故，除第七。又解第八、七識，並明斷有漏分位，此六轉識但明起、滅分位，不言斷有漏分位。第八、七，一切時行顯，今六識亦有斷位影顯文也。下轉依中自當解故。此前六識以根本識為共依，即現行本識也，識皆共故。親依者，即種子識各別種故。

[The Commentary states:] Among the seven evolving consciousnesses, the first six evolving consciousnesses exclude the seventh, because the cognitive operation of the seventh consciousness is always unhindered. Moreover, in that text it was already explained that it turns in reliance upon that [eighth] and cognizes that [eighth], hence the seventh is excluded. Another interpretation is that the eighth and seventh consciousnesses both explain the state of severing defilement, whereas these six evolving consciousnesses only explain the states of arising and ceasing, not mentioning the state of severing defilement. The eighth and seventh operate at all times and are prominent; now the six consciousnesses also have a state of severance that is implicitly indicated in the text. This will be explained in the section on the transformation of the basis below. These first six consciousnesses take the root consciousness as their common support, which is the actual root consciousness, because it is common to all consciousnesses. As for 'direct support', it refers to the seed consciousness, because their seeds are distinct.
