述曰：彼《解深密》等說：「廣惠！如大暴流水，若有一浪生緣現前，唯一浪轉；乃至若多浪生緣現前，有多浪轉」，諸識亦爾，如暴流阿陀那故，乃至諸識得轉等，此以五識喻於濤波，本識喻暴水。

The Commentary states: The *Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra* and other texts state: “Viśālamati! Just as in a great torrential current of water, if the conditions for the arising of a single wave are present, only a single wave turns; […] up to if the conditions for the arising of many waves are present, many waves turn,” the consciousnesses are likewise; because the *ādāna*[-vijñāna] is like a torrent, up to the various consciousnesses are able to turn, and so forth. Here, the five consciousnesses are compared to the waves, and the root consciousness is compared to the torrent.
