述曰：論主喻曰：如眼等識各於色等，取一或二十種等，既無失者，此意亦然，了一切法是其作用故。以諸識見、相二分，各有種種相故，見有分明多用，境有為多識所取作用相故。

The Commentary states: The author of the treatise gives an analogy, saying: Just as the eye-vijñāna and so forth each take one or twenty kinds [of aspects] within form and so forth without fault, this manas is also like this, because discerning all dharmas is its function. This is because the darśana- and nimittabhāgas of the various vijñānas each possess various marks; the darśana[-bhāga] has the mark of clear, multiple functions, and the cognitive object has the mark of the function of being taken by multiple vijñānas.
