述曰：此問後也。自下牒第一卷初頌上二句：「由假說我、法，有種種相轉」，彼言依何轉變，謂內識所變，此能變唯三。上來已別解三能變訖，今解依識所變義，以立假我、法。云何依識變，假立我法，無別實有，由依識變一切諸法唯有識耶？即明一切識變之理故唯有識，為此問也。乃牒初頌發此問端。

The Commentary states: This asks the subsequent question. From here down, it repeats the first two lines of the opening verse in the first fascicle: "Due to the metaphorical designation of self and dharmas, / Various marks evolve." That [verse] said: Relying on what transformation do they evolve? Namely, what is transformed by internal consciousness; and these transforming [consciousnesses] are only three. Above, the three transforming [consciousnesses] have already been specifically explained; now it explains the meaning of what is transformed relying on consciousness, so as to establish the metaphorical self and dharmas. How is it that, relying on the transformation of consciousness, self and dharmas are metaphorically established without separate real existence, such that due to being transformed relying on consciousness, all dharmas are consciousness-only? That is, to clarify the principle that all is the transformation of consciousness and therefore consciousness-only, this question is asked. Thus it repeats the opening verse to raise this question.
