The Commentary states: Below is the specific elucidation of the four wisdoms. Asvabhāva says: 'Mutually contrary and opposing, hence called contradictory.' Contradictory refers to the objects, because each is different; those that contradict are called contradictory beings; or contradictory refers directly to the subjects, because both persons and objects are different. The consciousness of contradictory beings is called contradictory consciousness; the cause that produces this consciousness is called the mark. The bodhisattva's wisdom thoroughly knows that this mark is only internal mind, and therefore all dharmas are also transformed by mind alone: for ghosts and the like, a river of pus; for fish and the like, dwellings and roads; for gods, jewel-adorned ground; for humans, clear cool water; in space-meditation, only empty space—it is not a single real object that contradicts itself. Although these are not the imagined nature (parikalpita), their karmic classes are such that each transforms differently. The old rendering states: 'One object corresponds to four minds.' Here we say: because the object is not definitively one, one should say 'one place'; their cognitions produce divergence, proving and knowing that there is consciousness-only.
