The Commentary states: The second syllogism states: the remaining consciousness also does not directly cognize dharmas separate from itself; because it is a consciousness; like visual and other consciousnesses. The word 'commonly recognized' also carries over to this, because the seventh and eighth consciousnesses are not established for the other party. It refers to the sixth consciousness, which remains beyond the five consciousnesses. If one specifically said 'the sixth consciousness,' one would fear the other party raising the fallacy of inconclusiveness (anaikāntika) based on the seventh and eighth consciousnesses; hence one only says 'the remaining' in general. Specifically taking the sixth consciousness, the intention also subsumes the seventh and eighth within it. Like the visual and other consciousnesses, it also does not directly cognize dharmas separate from itself; hence this is used as the example, which means taking as its object an object that is not separate from its own consciousness.
