The Commentary states: This explains the second line of the verse. That is, the seeds in the fundamental consciousness explained earlier, assisted by the other three conditions, transform in such and such ways. When previously unripened, it is called arising, as in the stage of lead-in cause (ākṣepahetu); transforming from this until ripening, as in the stage of generating cause (janakahetu) moistened by the water of craving, having the characteristics of shifting and ripening, it is called transformation. Because seeds are numerous and all have transformations that produce various conceptual discriminations, "in such and such ways" is repeated.
