述曰：下欲解第一句中「由」字；第三句中「以」、「故」二字；第四句「生」字，遂結上頌意因總明之。謂答頌前問言，雖無心外之緣，由識中有一切種者，牒解第一句及釋其中「由」字。轉變差別者，牒第二句及以現行八種識等。「展轉力故」者，牒第三句并解其中「以」、「故」二字。彼彼分別而亦得生者，牒第四句并解「生」字，如此分別得生，何假外緣分別方起。然此正解頌中染分所明意訖。

The Commentary states: Below, intending to explain the character 'due to' (由) in the first line, the two characters 'because of' (以...故) in the third line, and the character 'arise' (生) in the fourth line, it then concludes the meaning of the verse above by explaining them in summary. That is, answering the preceding question before the verse by stating, 'Although there are no conditions external to the mind, due to the presence of all seeds within consciousness' repeats and explains the first line and clarifies the character 'due to' in it. 'Transformations and distinctions' repeats the second line and the active eight consciousnesses, etc. 'Because of the power of mutual interaction' repeats the third line and explains the characters 'because of' in it. 'Various discriminative thoughts are also able to arise' repeats the fourth line and explains the character 'arise'. Since discriminative thoughts are able to arise in this way, why rely on external conditions for discriminative thoughts to arise? Here ends the direct explanation of the intent of what is clarified regarding the defiled portion in the verse.
