述曰：此外人問。前頌上二句說種子，第三句說現行為緣，生於八識相應等分別之法，第四句是，云何應知此緣、生相？此總問緣及緣生相。答中有二：初廣上三句種、現緣法；後廣生分別相。即第四句。

The Commentary states: This is an opponent's question. The preceding verse's first two lines stated seeds, the third line stated active manifestations as conditions that give rise to discriminative dharmas such as the eight consciousnesses and associated factors, and the fourth line is this: how should one understand these conditions and the characteristics of arising from conditions? This asks comprehensively about conditions and the characteristics of arising from conditions. The answer has two parts: first, a detailed explanation of the dharmas of seeds and active manifestations as conditions in the first three lines; second, a detailed explanation of the characteristics of generating discriminative thoughts, which is the fourth line.
