述曰：第二簡略。問：何故現行同類前望後，如小乘同類因，此非因緣耶？以本識中各自種生故，已有因緣能親辨其體故，前現望後非是因緣，一切外麥等物亦爾。問：何故若同時、異時一切種子，望現行異類？種子自望種子異類，現行望彼現行異類，現行望彼種子異類，皆非因緣。

The Commentary states: This is the second qualification. Question: Why are preceding homogeneous active manifestations in relation to subsequent ones—like the homogeneous cause (sabhāga-hetu) in the Hīnayāna—not cause-conditions? Because they are generated from their own respective seeds within the root consciousness, having already a cause-condition capable of directly producing their substance; thus, preceding active manifestations in relation to subsequent ones are not cause-conditions. All external entities like barley and the like are also like this. Question: Why are all seeds, whether simultaneous or at different times, in relation to heterogeneous active manifestations; seeds among themselves in relation to heterogeneous seeds; active manifestations in relation to heterogeneous active manifestations; and active manifestations in relation to heterogeneous seeds, entirely not cause-conditions?
