The Commentary states: This excludes that final mind as not being [this condition], because the mind entering [nirvāṇa] without remainder is extremely weak and faint. It lacks the function of opening and guiding, for a mind that opens and guides must have strength and is not weak and faint; the causal force is feeble. Moreover, there is no immediately contiguous fruit that will arise; hence that final mind is not subsumed under this condition. Chapter eighty [of the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra] states: Before the mind entering without remainder, one first enters the cessation absorption, ceasing the six revolving consciousnesses, and only later ceases the remaining consciousnesses; there are those who by the power of vows enter cessation absorption and thus pass away, because the anāsrava sixth consciousness enters the absorption, while the seventh and eighth consciousnesses in an indifferent feeling, indeterminate mind pass away. In the third fascicle above there is another distinct explanation.
