The Commentary states: As for the productive cause being the cause-condition, it is spoken of either as six causes or as two causes. Drawing provisionally on the *Bodhisattvabhūmi*: if one takes all six broadly, it is called 'expansion'; if one takes only two, it is called 'contraction.' Or, if among the six one takes only seeds as the productive cause, failing to subsume active states completely, this is called 'contraction'; if one also includes active states, this is called 'expansion.' Relying on the stage with vitarka and the like, if one takes six causes, it is called 'expansion'; if one takes only one cause, it is called 'contraction.' What is generally stated here is entirely as previously explained.
